Best. Pizza. Ever.

Oh yes, oh yes, we've just had possibly the best pizza I have ever made.  Perhaps even the best pizza I've ever tasted!  And, it's got veggies on it.  I know, me and veggies and the best pizza ever.  Craziness!!  Who woulda thunk!!??

Anyway, I won't go into the whole pizza process as I've done that so many times and I don't really change is up much.  But I will list today's toppings and note the variations from my usual prep.

whole wheat dough
homemade sauce
low fat mozzarella, grated
1/2 head broccoli, steamed and chopped
1 medium onion, sliced and caramelized with olive oil, crushed garlic & butter
1 head garlic, roasted
Parmesan cheese, grated
red pepper flakes, to taste
salt & pepper, to taste

I did precook my dough for about 5 minutes before smearing it with the roasted garlic.  Mostly so it wouldn't tear.  Then I added the remaining toppings and cooked it at 500 until done.

The result was so far beyond my expectations.  The entire pizza was gone in minutes.  One warning though, let's just say that my husband kept the bed very warm that night.  :-P
Does anybody else have a pizza obsession?  I'm thinking of reincarnating the "pizza Fridays" from my childhood.

  4. Lyn - I will make one for you of course!

Thanks ladies. I can promise that it tastes much better than it looks. I think the secret is in the roasted garlic. Everything would taste good smothered in that stuff!!

  5. It does look good! Veggies look so good with cheese toasted all over it. The problem...well it's not really a problem, but we would have to make our own individual pizzas so we can all get what we like! :D Which we've done before. I also do that when we make stromboli. Just give them their piece of dough and let them fill it like they want it!

Let us know if you do pizza Fridays! I know a friend always does it with her family!

  6. Broccoli?? On a pizza? Brilliant!! The kiddo LOVES broccoli (and oddly enough could care less about pizza) so maybe if I added broccoli to pizza she'd eat it. I know. I have a strange kid LOL! But really this looks darn good. OH and thanks for the warning LOL!

  7. Lyndsey - great thing about pizzas is you can make them any size. Even individuals! :) I think we'll give pizza Fridays a try starting nexxt week. This week it's pizza Saturday.

Andrea - I think I'd take my kids favoring broccoli over pizza any day! haha I hope yours like it. And yeah, broccoli, garlic AND onions can be a lethal combo in the belly!

  8. This pizza looks great. I love the addition of broccoli. Roasting it in the oven brings out a delicious nutty flavor.

I'm definitely obsessed with pizza. I finally got myself down to making it once a month. Too much cheese and oh so good. LOL.
